Print Definitions

  1. What is an artist proof? Artist's proofs are additional prints not included in, but of the same quality as, the regular edition. Artist's proofs are distinguished by the abbreviation AP and are numbered separately; they often represent 10 percent of an edition and are slightly more expensive than prints in the regular edition.

  2. What is a canvas transfer? A reproduction in which inks are chemically lifted off a piece of paper and applied to a piece of canvas.

  3. What is a certificate of authenticity? A warranty card or statement of authenticity of a limited-edition print that records the title of the work, the artist's name, the edition size and the print's number within the edition, the number of artist's proofs and the release date. It is a guarantee that the edition is limited and that the image will not be published again in the same form. Only one certificate of authenticity is issued for each print, therefore they are not replacable.

  4. What is a limited-edition print? A reproduction of an original work of art that is signed and sequentially numbered by the artist. The total number of prints is fixed or limited by the artist or the publisher.

  5. What is an open-edition print? A reproduction of an original work of art that is sometimes signed by the artist. The number of prints published is not predetermined.

  6. What is an original painting? A one-of-a-kind image created by an artist that often sells for several thousands of dollars. Terry Redlin has not sold an original oil painting since the 1980's.

  7. What does signed and numbered mean? Limited-edition prints that have been signed and sequentially numbered by the artist. The artist's signature is usually found in one of the lower corners of the print and is accompanied by a number that looks like a fraction; the top number indicates the number of the print and the bottom number indicates the total number of prints in the edition.

  8. What is a time-limited edition? An edition whose size is established by the number of orders a publisher receives during a set period of time.

  9. What is an Elite Edition Print? An Elite Edition Print is an open edition print that sometimes may have an embossed signature in the lower right hand corner. The standard image size is 14" x 24" with one exception of 16-1/2" x 28-3/8.

  10. What is an Encore I Edition Print? An Encore I Edition Print is an open edition print. Terry Redlin's signature is printed within the image area. The standard image size is 8-3/4" x 14".

  11. What is an Encore II Edition Print? An Encore II Edition Print is an open edition print. Terry Redlin's signature is printed within the image area. The standard image size is 10-1/2" x 18" with one exception of 12-7/8" x 11-1/2".

  12. What is a Lagacy Canvas? The beautiful Legacy Canvas is truly unique. As the ultimate in high resolution canvas reproductions, this canvas offers unmatched richness of color and texture. Each canvas is created to match the size of the original oil painting making the Legacy Canvas almost indistinguishable from Terry Redlin's original oil paintings. Reflections of light on the brushstrokes faithfully re-create the artistic effects that this Master Artist painted in his originals. These are a signed and number limited edition.

  13. What is a Master Canvas Edition? The Master Canvas Edition capture both the richness and the texture of an original oil painting on canvas. Unlike paper prints, they do not require the protection of glass. The Master Canvas Edition is signed and numbered limited edition.

  14. What is the Pinnacle Collection? The Pinnacle Collection re-introduces the art of Terry Redlin by highlighting the most prominent segment from the image and enhancing the focal point. This new format provides an in-depth look at the detail and the intricacies found within each masterfully created painting.
